| In our last dispatch from Borah Borah (our Wisconsin cabin) we mentioned that the inspiration for building this place occurred a few years ago, in Bora Bora. This gorgeous island in French Polynesia is among the landmark destinations that are part of many of our clients' immediate or five-year travel plans. The occasion was a meeting of the Four Seasons industry advisory board. Victoria is long-time member of this board, as well as a number of other suppliers in the travel industry--resorts, luxury cruise lines, and others. These meetings are real work, analyzing sales, the pros and cons of a company's offerings, and frank discussions about how to best serve clients. They bring together the best in the business, and we are blessed to have had the opportunity to learn a great deal from suppliers and fellow travel advisors who are at the top of their game. It's no exaggeration to say that these are the very best travel advisors and suppliers in the world, and it's a privilege to have become close friends with many of them. Most often the schedule for these meetings is pretty tight, and while they destinations are always amazing, business often dictates returning home or on to some other destination right after the conclusion. This trip was different. Victoria was ready to wind down, and Mike was ready for some Scotch and cigars. There are are many beautiful places in the world, and we were in one of them. So we stayed a couple of extra days. Imagine that . . . time with your spouse. In paradise. What we found . . . or rediscovered . . . was the beauty and power of disconnecting from the world in a beautiful place. As you consider your post-social distancing travels, it's worth considering one of the most beautiful and serene places you could imagine. If you have a recommendation for your fellow travelers when we are all traveling once again, please feel free to add your thoughts as a comment. Without further adieu, here are a few of our photos from Bora Bora.... |
