It's a gray Easter day here at Borah Borah. Looking out toward the valley, largely obscured by the clouds below, one might think that Spring might choose not to arrive this year. But, changing focus to the feeders just outside the window, we can see that the splendor of the season of rebirth will not be restrained. There's a red-bellied woodpecker working on the suet, and the goldfinches, in increasingly loud plumage, are readying themselves for their anticipated broods. Bluebirds are exploring the nesting boxes, and brazen eagles are perching just a couple hundred yards from the cabin.
Nature's urge to move cannot be denied. Swans are settling on the backwaters and the annual migration of waterfowl of every imaginable description has begun...cranes, ducks, even pelicans...are on the move here. All of this is happening against the soundtrack of the coyotes' songs. We can hear the chortling turkeys in the woods and the owls' calls add an air of mystery throughout the night.
It's pretty wondrous.
Just as the wildlife around us is now beginning its time of energized rebirth, we're also anticipating the spring and beyond. A couple of weeks ago, we began planting our garden and the first sprouts are pushing through the soil. Earlier this week we mowed our prairie to make way for the wild eruption of color that will overtake the ridge. And we've started planting seeds indoors, in anticipation of the outdoor planting season that begins in earnest in just a couple of weeks. We'll share some of this in the weeks ahead.
After a period of quiet, we're now beginning to hear the rustling sounds of the human world reawakening. It's been difficult for all, but some have suffered more than others. And for all those who have born the brunt of a difficult time, you remain in our constant thoughts and prayers.
But, just as nature emerges from winter, we are seeing our friends throughout the world shaking off the burdens that have been visited upon them. As for us, we are beginning to take calls from those who are preparing to once again spread their wings and explore the world. They're approaching it cautiously, as are we. There's a level of excitement about getting out and moving once again, but our clients are also focused on doing so with reasonable assurances of safety. So, this is what we're doing:
We are reaching out to those destinations that can provide the level of comfort and luxury our clients desire, and asking them to provide ideas for travel that meet the high standards we set for our clients' experiences. At this point in time, that involves access to natural beauty, exceptional accommodations, the finest in food, and a guarantee of a healthful experience.
We'll be in contact over the next couple of weeks with some of the properties we believe can meet our criteria. We invite our clients to share their interests...what might entice you to travel. And, we ask our partners in the travel industry who believe that they might have an experience that would be of interest to our clients to reach out to us with your ideas.
Nature's great reawakening is happening. We're ready to be part of it. If you're a client and it's time to start planning, get in touch. If you're in the hospitality industry and you have something we should share with our clients, please do the same. But, if the time is not yet right for you, please join us in at least enjoying the show.
